Operation Groundswell – Backpacking With a Purpose

Operation Groundswell is a not-for-profit volunteer/travel organization that provides off-the-beaten path opportunities for young leaders looking to engage with community-level projects overseas. We pride ourselves in being the most ethical and affordable alternative to “big box” volunteer abroad companies.

Registration has closed for certain trips however we are still looking for a few applicants on specific programs. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and there are limited spots left on the following programs for five to eight week placements:

* West Africa – (medical & global health focus)
* The Middle East – (human rights & international relations focus)
* Southeast Asia – (ecotourism and development focus)
* India – (development and sustainability focus)
* Guatemala – (fair trade justice and Indigenous issues focus)

AJWS Dvar Tzedek Writers’ Fellowship

AJWS’ Dvar Tzedek Writers’ Fellowship is accepting applications for 5771 / 2010-2011. AJWS Dvar Tzedek Fellows receive a modest stipend and write weekly Torah commentaries relating to the Jewish imperative for social justice. Cultural Leadership students participate in an intensive year of cultural activities, dialogue sessions, travel/study, public speaking, leadership training, and facilitated discussions on diversity and creating social change. Through these activities, the students gain an increased awareness of their own and each other’s history, religion, and culture, and learn valuable skills for facilitating discussions, solving problems, and making change.
